Surfs Up!

Living in the South West of the U.K,  I feel it only right to talk about my love of Surfing! One of my favourite ways to Exercise, escape and feel alive, as well as be close to nature!

From as long as I can remember I have visited Cornwall with family and worked summer seasons here, loving the surfer life! These photos are taken at Fistral beach Newquay, known as the best surfing spot in the U.K due to its consistent waves and sheer beauty. Board masters Surf Competition is held on Fistral every August, making it a very popular location. It can often be crowded so nearby Crantock beach or Watergate bay is an awesome alternative.

In fitness terms, I love surfing because it pushes you to your limits! Again and again with the sea crashing around you.

Top Health Benefits of surfing

  • Cardio fitness, raises your heart rate and gets you moving
  • Creates lean muscle, especially in the upper body from paddling out to waves
  • Works the deep core muscles, from standing on the board for balance and agility.
  • Mentally clears the head and makes you present, only concentrating on the waves around you.

It’s important to be a good swimmer to be safe in the sea.  Ideally if your a surf beginner I would recommend a surf teacher to show you the basics. In the photos I am using a short board for the first time, so am having a lesson from a local surf dude! If your new to surfing I would recommend going for the Long Foam Board for ease of use, which you can hire alongside your wetsuit.

Ideal Food Before Surfing

Hydrate Hydrate with water

Porridge or Granola with banana & honey

Wholegrain toast with peanut butter

The above will give a slow release of energy for a long period of time whilst you surf.

Surf Breaks

If surfing for a long period of time, try to have small breaks in between to hydrate on water or coconut water, which  has added electrolytes.

What to eat after Surfing?

A Good source of protein and carbs such as:

Lean chicken salad and baked sweet potato

Fresh fish, salad and potatoes

or a Vegan option of Hearty Lentil Stew.

Personal Favourite!

Acai bowl! My favourite snack which I tried whilst surfing in Brazil. Consists of Acai superfood (The worlds strongest antioxidant) Granola and honey. Can be eaten before or after surfing!

  1. I first walked on my own two feet, when holidaying on Fistral .Some years later I remember a friend who smothered himself in Olive Oil and Vinegar to get a very dark tan…in other words he cooked himself. Apart from Surfing, I like to run the length of the shoreline …always Uplifting.

    1. Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is valuable and everything.
But just imagine if you added some great graphics or videos to
give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and videos,
this blog could definitely be one of the very best in its field.
      Excellent blog!
