Indian Yoga Experience,

During the 2020 lockdown, I stumbled upon a Lonely Planet book on Goa, and it instantly interested me. Having lived in places like Ibiza, known for hedonism and freedom, Goa seemed like the perfect next adventure. So, I added it to my vision board, promising myself that one day, I’d discover this magical place.
Fast forward to my birthday in winter 2024, I decided to head straight to Goa with my close family friend, Will Clarke who owns Biblos Restaurant in Bristol . After an exciting stop in Mumbai, we made our way south, experiencing the hustle and bustle of Mumbai before taking a scenic train ride to Goa.

Once we arrived, I couldn’t wait to get to Anjuna, the hub of Goa’s music culture and youthful energy. We stayed at Beachside hostel right on the beach, and between sunrise beach parties and early morning yoga sessions, I felt totally immersed in the vibe.

As I practiced yoga daily, I realized I wanted to deepen my practice and become a qualified yoga teacher which would help with my Personal Training knowledge back home in Bristol . So, I set off to find the best Yoga school in Goa, and I found it at Shiva Yoga School in Arambol, North Goa.
The school was a peaceful oasis, with beautiful gardens, cozy accommodations, and an amazing community. The month-long teacher training was intense yet fulfilling: each day began with meditation at dawn, pranayama breathing, and Ashtanga yoga practice. We spent afternoons on theory and alignment before heading into evening ecstatic dance on the beach. The routine was challenging but so rewarding, and the supportive group made the journey even more special.
One of the highlights was the food—delicious Indian meals served daily by the local Didis (Sisters). But more than anything, the training taught me the power of Yoga to calm and restore the nervous system. It’s something I believe everyone, especially in today’s fast-paced world, can benefit from.
The closing ceremony was a beautiful, traditional Hindu ritual, honouring our hard-earned Yoga qualifications. We left with our certificates, full of gratitude, and ready to take what we had learned back to the world.
